Yep!
Of course it's a bit different compared to having a store and stock ...
... but the basics apply. No need for A when people buy B anyway.

Prove sufficient demand and CCP will follow.
They have done it before, they will do it again.
But when one item competes with another,
demand has to be significantly higher.
As long as people sufficiently use the substitute there's no point.

Yep!
Of course it's a bit different compared to having a store and stock ...

Just because there is no need for a product doesn't mean someone won't make it. And if they make it, some idiot will buy it. Sometimes necessity is the mother of invention. CCP then realises that there is demand for that type of product, leading to the production of new variants.

The point is to show that the demand for an eye patch A
is higher than demand for eyepatch B.
People in this thread show that they happily buy B
and that there is no need for A.
I'm not argueing against it, btw,
just explaining why it's not happening and how to possibly make it happen.
